The Simi Valley YMCA is looking for a Child Care Site Director to serve in a leadership role and create positive, nurturing relationships with children while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers, staff, and partners. This position will promote and support the potential of all youth in programs and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall program experience. This position will provide direction for the staff to support children in the classroom and will implement program curriculum focused on mastering specific skills. Essential Functions:

  1. Trains, schedules and supervises staff working in a licensed child care center or day camp.
  2. Facilitates monthly staff meetings and formally evaluates staff on an annual basis.
  3. Complies with all California Community Care Licensing requirements.
  4. Ensures all children are accounted for, properly supervised and safe at all times.
  5. Supervises the children, classroom or site, and all activities to ensure curriculum matches children ages and skill set.
  6. Develops daily, weekly and monthly program structure to guide staff preparation and keep parents informed.
  7. Directs and evaluates specific program planning and execution by site staff.
  8. Creates the standard for orderly conduct and directs appropriate behavior modification interventions focusing on the use of positive reinforcement.
  9. Communicates with parents to discuss progress and matters of interest.
  10. Collects payments, checks sign-in/out rosters for completeness and accuracy, as well as completes and turns in all required documents and reports.
  11. Maintains positive relations with parents, children, school personnel and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  12. Recruits and leads parent involvement in committees and activities.
  13. Mentors a minimum of 3 staff or more.
  14. Attends staff meetings, trainings and completes all assigned on-line trainings.
  15. Follows all policies and procedures; including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
  16. Purchases supplies, food and equipment necessary to complete planned program activities, while staying within budget.
  17. Continuously scans a variety of environments and surrounding areas for potential hazards and takes appropriate action to remove or avoid them, including the notification of senior staff when appropriate.
  18. Attends, leads and participates in family nights, program activities, YMCA campaign and other special events.
  19. Performs other duties as assigned.


  1. Meets at least one of the following:
  2. Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state law completion with passing grades of at least 12 (twelve) postsecondary semester units of specified early childhood education classes. Units specified shall include courses covering child growth and development, or human growth and development; child, family and community, or child and family; and program/curriculum and a minimum of (2) two years of work experience in a licensed Child Care Center or equivalent.
  3. Has a Bachelor's degree from an accredited or approved college or university with a major or emphasis in early childhood education or child development and a minimum of (1) one year of work experience in a licensed Child Care Center or equivalent.
  4. Three (3) additional units in Early Childhood Administration completed within six (6) months of starting the position.
  5. Must be at least 21 years of age.
  6. Knowledge of acceptable childcare and day camp practices.
  7. Knowledge of California child care licensing regulations.
  8. Ability to mentor staff.
  9. Ability to build a relationship with school staff.
  10. Demonstrate ability to create all activity calendars, snack menus and parent notifications in order to ensure program runs efficiently, smoothly, and that proper communication is occurring.
  11. Demonstrates initiative to plan, lead and participate in activities.
  12. Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor / indoor settings.
  13. This position may require the ability to stand and / or sit for extended periods of time, wade in water in order to supervise children, able to walk continuously at least mile, spend a full workday outdoors in any weather condition.
  14. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  15. CPR & First Aid certifications through a nationally recognized organization. Certifications must be maintained and current at all times.
  16. Must have Health and TB clearance.
  17. Must have up to date TDAP, MMR and Influenza vaccinations.
  18. Criminal records clearance.
