Summer Camp Staff

We are looking for exceptional role models to lead our campers as well as staff during our summer camp programs. Candidates should have experience in working with and leading children and a willingness to learn and grow with our camp training environment. Camp Counselors take a large responsibility for the safety, health and well being of our campers throughout the day. Essential Functions: 

1. Supervises a group of children at YMCA day camp program.
2. Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.
3. Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
4. Attends staff meetings and trainings and completes all assigned on line trainings.
5. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
6. Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
7. Requests supplies and equipment necessary to complete planned program activities.
8. Attends to children's needs where simple solutions are available or refers the problem to an appropriate more senior counselor or camp director.
9. Enforces orderly conduct in the program using positive behavior modification techniques.
10. Continuously scans a variety of day camp environments and surrounding areas for potential hazards and takes appropriate action to remove or avoid them.


1. Must be at least 16 years of age (over 18 preferred)
2. Previous experience working with children
3. Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, archery, boating, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc...
4. CPR and First Aid certifications prior to your first day of work.
5. Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
