Come work with the Y in making a difference in the lives of youth!   The YMCA is committed to making their Child Care Centers successful and know that creating meaningful relationships with children, families, and their team play a crucial role in that success.The Yarrow YMCA is looking for a Child Care Site Director to serve in a leadership role and create positive, nurturing relationships with children while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers, staff, and partners. This position will promote and support the potential of all youth in programs and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall program experience. This position will provide direction for the staff to support children in the classroom and will implement program curriculum focused on mastering specific skills. Essential Functions:

  • Trains, schedules, and supervises staff working in a licensed child care center or day camp.
  • Facilitates monthly staff meetings and formally evaluates staff on an annual basis.
  • Complies with all California Community Care Licensing requirements.
  • Ensures all children are accounted for, properly supervised, and safe at all times.
  • Supervises the children, classroom or site, and all activities to ensure curriculum matches children ages and skill set.
  • Develops daily, weekly, and monthly program structure to guide staff preparation and keep parents informed.
  • Creates the standard for orderly conduct and directs appropriate behavior modification interventions focusing on the use of positive reinforcement.
  • Maintains positive relations with parents, children, school personnel and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Purchases supplies, food and equipment necessary to complete planned program activities, while staying within budget.
  • Continuously scans a variety of environments and surrounding areas for potential hazards and takes appropriate action to remove or avoid them and notifies senior staff when appropriate.
  • Attends, leads and participates in family nights, program activities, YMCA campaign and other special events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state law completion with passing grades of at least 12 (twelve) postsecondary semester units of specified early childhood education classes. Units specified shall include courses covering child growth and development, or human growth and development; child, family and community, or child and family; and program/curriculum.
  • Minimum of (2) two years of supervising experience in a licensed Child Care Center or equivalent
  • Three (3) additional units in Early Childhood Administration completed within six (6) months of starting the position.
  • Knowledge of acceptable childcare and day camp practices.
  • Knowledge of California childcare licensing regulations.
  • Ability to mentor staff.
  • Ability to build a relationship with school staff.
  • Demonstrate ability to create all activity calendars, snack menus and parent notifications in order to ensure program runs efficiently, smoothly, and that proper communication is occurring.
  • Demonstrates initiative to plan, lead and participate in activities.
  • Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor / indoor settings.
  • This position may require the ability to stand and / or sit for extended periods of time, wade in water in order to supervise children, able to walk continuously at least mile, spend a full workday outdoors in any weather condition.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • CPR & First Aid certifications through a nationally recognized organization. Certifications must be maintained and current at all times.
  • Must have Health and TB clearance.
  • Must have up to date TDAP, MMR and Influenza vaccinations.
  • Criminal records clearance.
