The YMCA is looking to hire a Preschool Teacher Aide at our preschool location. This person will be responsible for providing a quality experience to children and parents that focus on the YMCA values: Honesty, Respect, Responsibility and Caring. In addition this person will provide direction for the classroom and implement program curriculum.

Essential Functions

  • Implements curriculum within the established guidelines.
  • Designs and implements daily lesson/activity plans.
  • Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities.
  • Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
  • Participates in parent conferences and maintains positive relationships and effective communication with parents and school staff.
  • Maintains program site and equipment.
  • Maintains required program records.
  • Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training
  • Performs other job-related duties as requested and necessary.

Qualifications

  • Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state law completion with passing grades of at least six (6) post secondary semester units of specified early childhood education classes, or have a valid Child Development Assistant permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. A teacher hired with six (6) units must complete at least two additional units each semester until fully qualified.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Knowledge of recommended childcare practices.
  • CPR & First Aid certifications through American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Certifications must be maintained and current at all times.
  • Familiarity with mandated reporting and steps that need to be taken.
  • All required on line trainings must be completed within 30 days of hire date.
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
  • Ability to speak to plan and lead program activities.
  • Ability to plan, lead and participate in activities.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations preferred. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
  • All required online training must be completed within 30 days of hire.
  • Health and TB Clearance.
  • Criminal records clearance.
