Are you looking to build relationships, impact lives and strengthen your community? The Yarrow YMCA located in Westlake Village, CA is seeking an Aquatics Coordinator. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director, the Aquatics Coordinator will maintain a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while providing leadership, instruction and motivation for aquatic members and staff. The Aquatics Coordinator will assist in ensuring operations, risk and program implementation are exceptional for all aquatic programs.

Essential Functions

  • Provide exceptional customer service to the aquatics department and members.
  • Answer phone, return calls and emails in a timely and effective manner.
  • Register members, print rosters and other duties to ensure successful swim lesson sessions and aquatics programs
  • Ensure all aquatics forms are appropriately completed, filed, recorded and stored in compliance with Record Retention and Document Destruction requirements.
  • Complete and post swim instructor schedule.
  • Be on deck and available to members and instructors the first week and last week of each session. Including Saturday morning lessons.
  • Attend all staff meetings and trainings
  • Handle all situations in a tactful and diplomatic manner and direct individuals to the Aquatics Director when necessary.
  • Supervise swim instructors and lifeguards as needed or in the absence of Aquatics Director.
  • Assist Aquatics Director in any in-service training.
  • Know emergency procedures and chain of command
  • Ensure organization of basic cleaning of pool area before, after lessons and throughout the day.
  • Provide staff with feedback, coaching, guidance and support.
  • Actively listen in relationship building conversations and while checking on members' progress. Help facilitate community building by introducing members to other staff and when appropriate, to other members.
  • Maintains constant compliance with all laws, regulations, and YMCA policies, especially staff certification requirements, child labor laws, and environmental health regulations related to pool sanitation and safety.
  • Works cooperatively with the maintenance staff to identify, communicate, and initiate both preventative and corrective maintenance work as early as possible.
  • Participates in scheduled staff meetings and training events as required.
  • Performs other job-related duties as requested and necessary.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 year of age.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED and Lifeguarding certified through a nationally recognized sanctioning organization.
  • Must complete all online trainings before hire, which will be compensated for accordingly.
  • Minimum two years of experience supervising aquatics staff and facilities preferred.
  • Basic supervisory or administrative skills.
  • Knowledge of principles of YMCA aquatic leadership.
  • Knowledge of principles of YMCA progressive swim instruction and understanding of child development.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to members, staff, and community at large.
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different background.
  • Must be available evenings and weekends.
  • Criminal records clearance.
